From 3 Clients to 30: How I Grew My VA Agency with Retainer Services

 
 

Today, I'm pulling back the curtain and sharing behind-the-scenes of my story – how I scaled my VA agency from just 3 clients to 30 and achieved consistent $10,000+ months.

My Humble Beginnings

I started my VA business in 2017, securing my first 3 clients through random job applications. Excited and hopeful to grow this new business, I spent countless hours creating my website, starting a blog, and promoting my services on Pinterest, Facebook, and Instagram. Like many new entrepreneurs, I believed that simply putting my services out there would be enough to attract a steady stream of leads.

Attracting Leads Was Not As Easy As It Seemed…

As the weeks went by, it became pretty obvious that the leads I’d hoped for were not just going to pour in. 

While listening to podcasts, I'd find myself daydreaming about working with the featured guests. But then, it hit me… My dream clients were never going to randomly stumble across my website, especially since I was still pretty new on the scene.

Pivoting to Pitching and Developing a No-Brainer Retainer Service

It was at this moment that I realised I needed to take control of lead generation. I decided to pivot my approach. I packaged up a no-brainer retainer service that I knew could provide immense value to potential clients. It was a service I believed in wholeheartedly.

Instead of waiting for clients to come to me, I started directly pitching my services to potential clients and leveraged referrals from my existing clients. And you know what? 


And it worked…

From 3 Clients to 30 and $10K+ Months

In less than 12 months, I grew my business from 3 clients to over 27. I was not only hitting $10,000+ months, but I was working with DREAM clients.

One of the biggest advantages of the retainer service model I’d adopted was the predictability it brought to my income. On average, clients stayed with me for about 12 months, allowing me to predict my monthly income. When a spot opened up in my client list, I'd reach out to my referral network or pitch more dream clients, and like clockwork, I'd fill that spot within 30 days.

Working Only 3 Days Per Week  

Because I had a really simple process for managing my client work, I could complete all of my work in just 3 days each week – until I hired an assistant who fulfilled most of the work for me. This freed up space for life outside of work. At the same time, I studied primary teaching, enjoyed a work-free trip to Hawaii, and spent lots of quality time with my fam.
