Seasonal Goal Setting: #1 Tool that helps me find balance and focus each month
Seasonal Goal Setting: #1 Tool that helps me find balance and focus each month
In this episode we are talking about a tool that I use monthly to help me audit, not only my business but also my life. When I am trying to grow my business, life comes into that. You may have family matters going on or maybe health issues in this season. These things are going to impact your business in the way you can grow it or show up. I have found there is no such thing as work/life balance, but it is actually about finding ease and finding flow within the season that you are in.
This tool helps me to audit and assess where I am right now so I can make moves in moving forward. This tool is called “The Wheel of Life.” Grab a journal and a pen and let’s dive right in.
You are going to rate areas of your life on a scale of 1 to 10.
- 10 being you are extremely happy with this area of your life and no improvement is needed
- 1 being you are not happy at all with this area of your life and it is causing a lot of strain.
This is a tool I use and refer to on a monthly basis.
Let’s dive into the audit
Physical Environment:
Rate this in terms of your home, your work office and work environment and what that looks like:-
Think about the amount of light, the air quality.
The space or lack of space. Maybe there’s a lot of clutter within your physical environment.
Are you happy with the design of it?
Is there something that you want to move or change?
Rate this area on a scale of 1-10
Fun:
This one speaks for itself but rate the quantity and quality of the fun you have in your life.
Make sure it is what you consider to be fun. For example, if you go hiking but hate it, this is not classed as fun.
Maybe it’s catching up with friends for coffee.
What does fun look like for you?
Consider the frequency of the times you are having fun. Is it only once a month or is it daily?
Rate this area on a scale of 1-10
Business:
Think about the quality and quantity of customers you are serving.
Are they ideal?
Do you really love working with them?
Is the marketing of your business effective? Could you be getting more sales?
Have a think about the marketing strategy that you are using.
Think about your offerings, do you love what you are known for, or are you not known at all?
Have a think about what you are providing.
Think about the systems and teams within your business. Maybe there are ways to improve your team or maybe you are super happy with your team.
Rate this area on a scale of 1-10
Relationships:
If you married, this includes romantic relationships or dating, but this point also considers friendships. Family relationships and all the relationships in your sphere right now.
Think about the quality of those relationships.
Are they supporting you in what you are doing right now.
Are your relationships pouring into you and are they a good fit for you?
Does the quantity of relationships reflect your personality?
Do they complement you and the way you do things?
Do you thrive in a smaller, more intimate group? A good quality of friends who pour into you and in turn, you pour into them.
Rate this area on a scale of 1-10
Health:
This includes a variety of areas in health.
Firstly, we are looking at physical health. This is diet and exercise. If you are suffering through a chronic illness or other physical health challenges.
The next area is social health. This can overlap with relationships as well, but it is also how healthy you feel socially. Are you always nervous? Do you lose friendships easily?
The other area is spiritual health. So, if you have faith then that is included here or just generally if you feel you have a purpose in the world.
Then the last of the areas is your mental and emotional health. Do you feel like you are just making it through the day, or do you feel like you have a lot of energy? Do you feel like you have a lot of emotional capacity in this season in your life and business?
Considering all these areas, rate yourself from 1 to 10.
Finances:
This is not just business finances, it’s your personal life as well as the two overlap.
Do you own your own home?
Do you have a variety of income streams helping to bring income into our life and business?
How much savings do you have?
Do feel stable in the way you are bringing finances into your world?
The other thing to consider is do you have any debt?
Consider how much you are paying yourself from your business.
Rate your finances from 1 to 10.
Personal Growth:
How are you growing on a day-to-day basis?
Are you over-coming certain mindset blocks?
Are you reading a lot to gain knowledge or are you listening to podcasts.
So basically, what you are doing to become a better person?
Rate this area on a scale of 1-10
Now what do you do with your ratings?
The whole purpose of the wheel of life is to look at these areas in your life and determine where you are and what are the contributing factors.
Each month I look at the lowest areas and I consider which one I want to improve for the next month. Let’s use health as an example of a low rating. Ask yourself how do I improve in this area? What don’t I like about this area?
Consider what actually would improve this area to make it at least one point higher?
Create action steps about how you can move forward in this area.
Implement a habit in this area like walking for 3 days a week and then building up to 5 days a week.
Combining two of the points like fun and relationships would be a good option.
